    Default Got it, but...

Well, I got it to work. However, I'm a tad bit confused. It's probably been asked before, but after a person purchases a download...

HOW DO THEY GET THE DOWNLOAD??

I just thought it would be instant. You know, "Thanks for your order, click here to download the file". Thanks for the help in advance,

    Jim

Yes ... File is for uploads only

Radiobutton or Dropdowns are best on downloads ... checkboxes on rare occaisions

Let's say you succeeded in getting the Attributes working and the Products setup with the downloads etc.

Now ... the order gets placed ...

1 make sure you are upgraded to v1.3.0.2 if in the v1.3.x series or v1.2.7 if you are not ...

2 Each Payment method has an Orders Status ... downloads are available immediately when Orders Status is >= 2 or <= 4

This is so that Orders by Money Order are not immediately available but things like Credit Card can be ...

Set the Orders Status for each Payment Status

If a Payment status is >=2 (Processing) or <= 4 (Updated) the download is immediately available ...

If a Payment status is 1 (Pending) then you have to change the status on the Order before the customer can retrieve the download

If the customer runs out of days or attempts ... you can reset the download(s) on an order with the Orders Status Update (orders_status 4) ... and then set back to the Orders Status you need such as Delivered (orders_status 3)

Or, you can update the download(s) 1 by 1 using the colored icon next to the download name on the Order ...

    Green is available to customer
Yellow is not available to customer
Red is file missing from server

Yellow means expired days, too many attempts or you have not allowed the customer to get it due to Payment method and need to update the status for them to >= 2 or <= 4

this is my problem, as well. tinas said "3) Set an option value (JPEG Image / GIF Image . etc.)" and i'm not sure what values are valid. i haven't stumbled on documentation for zencart yet. i'm no programmer. just been making stabs in the dark.

i'm trying to get pdf files to download.

"trying" ... does this mean you've set some up and they're not downloading? or you're unable to set them up? or .... what?

    thanks for responding so promptly!

i created a pdf called "test.pdf" to try this out on. i put it in the download folder. i created 2 products and made them free. i think i may have gotten past the option names/values part. i have an option called "DOWNLOAD NOW" with a value called "test.pdf." the option type is "radio." it's assigned to the catagory called "downloads - ID#1" within which the two products reside.

from here i've gone into "attribute controller." it tells me "no attributes defined for product id#2...

below "adding new attributes" i see the one i made called "test download." in the option name field it says [File] DOWNLOAD NOW [Radio]. in the option values field it says "test.pdf" and below that "TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]". neither of these fields is editable here. at the bottom, if i try to type in the file name i want to download, and then hit "insert" all i get is reverted back to the same screen, still telling me "no attributes defined..."

hope i'm clear enough here. i really don't know how far off base i am in what i've deduced.

1 you have to create an option
2 you have to create at least one value for an option
3 you have to select those option and values to add a download

here, for example, "Documentation" is an option, "PDF" an "MS Word" are values.

so, after i've created options with values i still need to assign them as attributes to the product or products where a customer pays for them and then downloads the file, right? is there something i'm missing as far as assigning the attribute is concerned?

well, here we are. still never got an answer. the snark was helpful though.

my solution has been to switch to the paypal cart, and use ################## for downloads. works like a charm. real easy to set up.

    thanks people. bye.
