Special Order Items

There are items that we won't always have in stock... we want to do them as special orders. I took off the out of stock button so ppl could add it in their cart but we want to be able to take a $20 deposit on these items... Is there a way to do this?

Zen Cart doesn't support partial-payments at the present time.
If you priced the items at $20 each, it would take "that" much as a payment easily.

You could alternatively build some sort of order-total module that operates similarly to a coupon and adjusts the price of the order according to some sort of criteria you define. But of course, that's custom coding.
