Multiple Shipping Rates

My Clients wants her shipping to be as follows

for lets say and autograph book..
1 book is 3.95 shipping each additional book is 1.50 so like
2 books 5.45, 3 books 6.95 etc.

In reading alot of threads that come up in the searches I did , it seems like thats not possible.

So my question is , is there a way to trick the shipping to do what I want by using weight or price??

I guess like your total is 8.95 then it would cost 3.95 shipping and if your total is 17.90 it would be 5.45 shipping??

You could use the Item Shipping ...

Set the Handling to: 2.45
Set the Per Item to: 1.50
