Default How to have customers pay the PayPal fee?

    Hi,

I'm just about getting to know Zen and I'm very happy that all of this is free. OK, free minus a little donation. Come on, lets all chip in and send this lot a bit of money.

But back to my new thread.

I would like to use PayPal as a means of paying. But I want my customers to pay the fee and not myself. How can I add e.g. 2% or a fixed rate e.g. 3Euros to the bill so that customers send me the right amount?

It would be great if someone out there could help me.

    Tom

We have had this discussion on the boards before, it is my understanding that it is against the Paypal TOS to do this. I could be weong but I would consider checking that before I tried to force the charge on people.

    Hi

thanks for the quick replay. Oh, I didn't know that but I will send them an email.

I would like to use the same idea (putting 1.9% on top of the total price) for a German postal service. They charge this amount as a handling fee and with them it is OK that the buyer rather then the seller foots the bill.

So at the end of the day the question still remains, it's just a differnt company.

    So, please can someone help.

    Tom

P.S.: I'll post the PayPal answer here as soon as I get it.

Sorry - I just floated thru an admin area to see if I could find a way - there doesn't appear to be one (like in the shipping modules you can set a fee for using the shipping service).

I tried but it doesn't jump at me - and I am just waking up so my brain is only thinking 1/2 zen at this moment - the other 1/2 is looking for the coffee pot :)

adding a FEE for using paypal is against their TOS,
If you want to do this raise your rates to cover the cost then offer a discount for other payment methods
there is a module for this in the archived downloads

try payment type discount under archived contributions/order-totals. You can either inflate the prices of your products by 1.9% and give a discount depending on payment type, or tweak the math and change the discount to a charge for the German postal option.

Not only is it against PayPal TOS, but it will void your Merchant Protection through PayPal.

Best regards (and nearsighted from browsing fine print),

Hi, is there any other idea how to solve this problem ? I think that it is not a good idea to enhance all prices and to give discount for other payment methods. My shop will look expensive and PayPal is not the main payment method for me. All other customers pay the "transaction fees" e.g. for COD etc.

E.g. My customer had to pay 423 EUR. He send vai PayPal 423 EUR but I get only 408 EUR. So I thin 15 EUR is not a few and in some cases the money I get is very similar to the price I buy so I think it would be nice to solve it somehow

The site will do a reverse equation based on how much you want to get in the end and will tell you how much to charge.

Unless you accept cash or check, you probably have to pay around 2% for all transactions through Paypal and CreditCard. Don't put that on your customers. And don't think it as a FEE, because it's NOT. While you have to pay them a certain (small) percent of the total, you get MORE customers. It's an INVESTMENT.
