Purple Shades shopping cart problem

I have just noticed an issue with the PurpleShades template that I cannot seem to find an answer to. After installing it there seems to be a problem in the shoping cart. After you add an item the quantity box to the left is missing but the actual number is present. Also if you try and update the quantity, it deletes the item from your cart. Can someone point me in the correct direction as ther where the problem may be?

Cart works fine outside of the template.

Well I have been unable to create an account to check out. I keep getting an error stating that I have to enter a state from the drop down.

Can someone tell me if there are anymore files used to display the shopping cart than includes\languages\english\shopping_cart.php?
I'm not a programmer but I've done ok troubleshooting PHP on my site so far.
I'm a bit confused as to why im having this issue since purpleshades template does not touch this file and the fact that when I turn off th etemplate the shopping cart works as advertised. Something in the purpleshades template must be touching a file that I am unaware of that affects the cart.

Update, noticed that the cart in the default template displayes the same problem.
Any assistance would be appreciated. I did a winmerg to look at core files against my test system (that works correctly) and found only 2 files different (the 2 configs)

I'm stumped and not a programmer..

While working on a different issue I restored my production DB to my working test system. Now the test system's cart is having this same issue with product quantity box not showing as well as the refresh button deleting the items in the cart.
Now Im really lost. Is this actually controlled in the DB??
If it is can someone point me in the right directions??

Ok, just upgraded from 1.3.2 to 1.3.6 and this problem still persists as far as this.
The quantity box in the shopping cart is not enclosed in a "box" and is not editable, however, now when you click the double arrow button to update the quantity the cart is not deleted like it was.
can someone tell me what files are used to "draw" and makeup /index.php?main_page=shopping_cart

I want to compare the upgraded site to my demo install of 3.6 to see if there is a difference in a file I missed at some point.

My Demo Site shopping cart of 3.6 works as advertised.

I have even changed back to teh default template that comes standard with Zen cart and I get the same thing. Is there a possibility that this problem could somehow be database related?
Can anyone recomend a possible way out of this problem if its not the code?
I do not want to push 1.3.6 to production until I have this issue fixed.

Ok, for another test I set up a CLEAN, out of the box 1.3.6 Zen Cart straight from source forge. Tested that it worked, it did, Opened the DB and dropped all the tables. I then took a backup of my production 1.3.2 site and restored it into the clean DB. Then I re-ran the clean install performing the DB upgrade. The cart is now populated with a default install of Zen with no mods/templates etc. My cart problem is now part of this install after inserting the DB.

Any clue as to where this may be comming from?
