    Fasthosts support site says:
How to use Fasthosts' SMTP servers
You can use Fasthosts' SMTP servers to send email if you use:
    * Fasthosts Broadband or Fasthosts Dial
    * Advanced mailboxes
    * scripts on our web servers that send email.
Fasthosts Broadband and Dial: Use smtp.fasthosts.co.uk to send email, ensuring that it is set not to authenticate using a username and password.

Advanced Mailboxes: Use smtp.fasthosts.co.uk to send email, using your standard mailbox username and password to authenticate the connection.

[email protected] is an advanced mailbox and the following is the info for it:
    POP3 (incoming) server: mail.petpromises.co.uk
    SMTP (outgoing) server: smtp.petpromises.co.uk
Username: generalenquiries AT petpromises DOT co DOT uk
    Password: As specified
Mail server IP address: 213.171.216.1 (Cluster 1)

Try changing these to other settings:
    E-Mail Linefeeds LF
Emails must send from known domain? No

No luck- i tried both individually and together.

Re: Email SMTP issues (i think)

Oops, I just posted to th initial e-mail in this thread in another forum and see there's been responses here.

What do you mean by "disable smtp"? I have switched from smtpauth to sendmail, but that alone doesn't work either (Windows 2003 Server). Is there some additional disabling of smtp somewhere in the settings?

if you have the switch on to sendmail and not smtp, you should be fine, this is another term of turning it off. Not literal terms.

Default Email SMTP issues (i think)

I am having the same type of trouble. Tried everything like discussed in this forum. Still cannot send or receive any messages from my cart.

Here is some of the info I got by running techsupp.php:

    Server Info
    Webserver: Apache/1.3.34 (Unix) mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 PHP/4.3.10 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_ssl/2.8.25 OpenSSL/0.9.7a

    PHP set_time_limit (max execution time) = 30
    PHP Disabled Functions =

    PHP Sessions Support = ON
    PHP session.auto_start = OFF
    PHP session.use_trans_sid = ON

    PHP SMTP Settings = localhost
    PHP include_path = .:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php

    Can some one please help!!

By the way, I turned on e-mail archiving in admin and saw every e-mail sent got saved in database. Does this mean my e-mail problems can only be caused by settings on server side of my hosting company?

Re: Email SMTP issues (i think)

My problem isn't solved by the sendmail option and I've tried every combination I can think of. I can still switch over to 1.25 and the e-mail works, 1.35 and nothing. Same Windows 2003 Server. Each time I send an e-mail or gift certificate the bar at the top of the page says the e-mail was sent. But I don't believe it's ever reaching the server.
