Username - Yes, password - no, it is encrypted.
Hi Kim,
Is it possible then to have a bcc email sent to my email address everytime a customer creates a new account - showing all their account info. This would show their username and password right?
Thanks,
Adam
Yes you can set that up in admin so that you receive a copy of their 'confirmation of account creation' email - but that doesn't include their password. It would show you the email address they login with though.
Why do you need to know their password?
A password is secret ...
It belongs only to the customer ...
I think you are running a risk of liability in attempting to capture a customer's password ... regardless of your reasoning for this ...
You are risking someone talking to some lawyer type really quick about infringement on rights to privacy ...

Hi,
I would like to know their password because sometimes a customer creates an account then phones in their order. When they phone in their order I would like to be able to log in as them, add the items to their cart, complete the order and select offsite payment.
This allow for better inventory management and stock supply and accuretly shows what has been sold off the website. It also allows for better tracking and updating of the customers order.
I feel as the administrator and owner of the website it is not an intrusion on the customer to complete their orders this way.
It would be easier for me to know their password rather than:
1 Asking the customer
2 Asking the customer to complete the order and select offsite payment

PS. Many times when I am trying to sign up for a university course I have to call the IT support as I have forgotten either my username or password. If major universities can track their students passwords without any infringement lawsuits I would not imagine it would be a problem with a small store
Many people use the same password everywhere ...
Do you really want to be one of the people who knows their password on PayPal? Their Bank Account?
There is the Master Password ... this is designed to use "your" password with their permission to access their account etc.

Thank you, the master password is exactly the mod I am looking for. This bypass all the password issues.
Thanks again,
Adam
How do you enable or use the Master Password?
The issue I have is customers that sign up and register, and then forget their password. I know they can submit a password reset, but in some cases their email gets sucked away by their SPAM filter, and they are left without a password.
I would like to, from the admin position, reset their password for them and send it to them. They can then log in and change it again.
If the Master Password will let me log into their account, I can change the password for them and provide it to them in a separate communication.
How does the Master password work?
