Creating custom center and side boxes - help!

I'm trying to edit the main index page, and want to create some new boxes, but I'm not really sure how to go about it. I've been trying to figure it out, and while I'm sure there's a simple way of doing this - I can't find it...

Centre boxes
I want to create two new boxes - above the existing centre boxes- which will each display an image.

Side box
I want a new sidebox, which will also display an image.

Ideally, there needs to be a way of changing the images of all the boxes from the Admin area.

I also want each image to be a link to a different ezPage

Side boxes can be added by downloading and using the aboutus module.

Depending on what you are using the mainpage file for, you add images in this box through the admin > tools > defines page editor > main_page.php

I want to be able to do something simillar !

Is there a tutorial about creating your own modules to creat centre content stuff.

My client wants something like the featured module , but differnet , so was going to take that module , rename it , then call it from the main page when needed.

it there anything to help with this ? such as a blank module , like Blank Sidebox !

There are no guides that I am aware of...but depending on what you are wanting...content or products will lead you as to which one to clone.

looking to have a featured item showing on the front page , ( picked from the list of Featured Items ) with a large image , and full description and price next to it

So it looks a little like the Product info page for individual products.

the featured items center box would still exist , that is why I was lookig to clone that one , then alter it .

After a little research , it looks like that the array that builds these pages would needed to be changed too to grab the description , then the switch used to display it .

Possibly a little too much for my skills !

Unless you also want the default "Featured Products" box. why not just use the current one?? This way the current featured item controls in the admin stay functional.

In Admin > config > index listing > Featured Products Columns per Row > set to 1 and this should show only one product and then resize the images, layout etc.

What if when you click on a category I want to show feature products with in that category only?

I am trying to figure this out. Can this be done in Admin?

yes of course it's already set up that way. but of course you'd have to play with the template to see this. HA!

I want to add additional sideboxes. I mean we can tweak all these boxes in admin section and customize them but lets do a blank sidebox that can be eazily customized.

What are the steps to creating a single sidebox where we can place whatever content we like in it.

I think this is a good question? who can help me here?
