    Default No upgrade button

So I am trying to upgrade and I can't see how to simply upgrade, not install. When I am here:
    .../shop_new/zc_install/index.php?main_page=inspect&language=english

and I want to upgrade but can only click on Install or Re-check.

Is this right? The instructions say do not install, make sure to upgrade.

(I've tried install and can't get logged into my new database that took a year to create - thank you ever so much, GoDaddy/MySQL for creating export files that the import tool can't use - so I guess it's time to quit for tonight.)

You are not in Upgrade mode but Install mode and will destroy your database ...

What have you done so far up to this point to start this upgrade?

I think you are either missing the 2 configure.php files or have not updated the paths/database information for this ...

What have I done so far - this is from memory and not in exact order and possibly missing some steps and hair pulling.

    0. Synched my current shopping cart back to my computer
    1. Downloaded latest version
    2. Read the instructions.
2a. Panicked. It's a lot of work, afterall.
    3. Copied my database, I hope. This was a PITA and I am hoping to go to my original copy because I am not entirey confident with my new copy and I am not live yet so that will be fine.
    4. Compared files, but did this process wrong because by the time I found a program to use, I forgot the exact instructions. I compared the old version to the new version (silly) and applied my changes directly into the new version. I paid no attention to my template at this time.
    5. Uploaded the new version.
    6. Changed config file to point to new database.
    7. Put the config file in the admin directory, as well as the files from the two patches I also downloaded.
    8. Realized I hadn't changed the pathname of admin, figured I can do that later - didn't see any instructions for it in the steps I followed and didn't remember exactly how that bit worked so plan to look it up later.
    9. Tried to install and hit that scary thing.

Well, at least, this is what I believe I've done so far. It should not have my layout or new admin but I did change the config (I think) so I did expect it to pick up my database.

I am not too horribly worried about losing my database because I do have a backup, but it is not one I am 100% confident in either, so I'd rather not trash it.

I'll go back and have a look at pathnames for the configure files. I only copied ONE configure.php. I have missed something, apparently.

Okay I am obviously sleep-deprived and missing something key here. Yes, I had misssed a configure.php so now I've got both. But one of them references my renamed admin directory. What is the proper way to upgrade? I cannot find anything in the scattered upgrade notes about renaming the admin directory. It is not finding my renamed admin directory at all so I can't pass the first test now.

What I do is temporarily rename your "adminwhoever" directory back to admin and edit the /admin/includes/configure.php so your "adminwhoever" directory is referenced back to admin ...

If you are just Upgrading the Database ... and not the configure.php files ... you just need to rename the /adminwhoever to /admin but not touch the /admin/includes/configure.php just so you can get to the Upgrader ...

Oh please a few more details, I have been playing around with this line of thinking for the last few hours. But I am not quite getting what you're saying. I tried not using my new admin and I also tried renaming admin and renaming my new-admin to admin. I have not hit on the incantation. I don't think I ever merged my admin directory from the old version since it would not have shown up in the compares - it has a different name.

Check that the right configure.php is in the:
    /includes/configure.php

on the server with the right database referenced and path to your Shop ...

Make sure the new Admin directory is called:
    /admin

    and that the:
    /admin/includes/configure.php

on the server has the right database referenced and path for both the shop and the admin ...

    Now run the /zc_install

This should make the Upgrade button show and allow you to Upgrade the database ...

Once Upgraded and working ... you can then rename the /admin to /adminwhoever and change the /admin/includes/configure.php to the new path for /adminwhoever

Super frustrating. I have tried and tried. I tried the new admin directory and I tried my old admin directory and I never ever get the upgrade button. Is there any reason I can not just start with a new version of the database, overwrite it, and then flip back to my original database? Well, that is what I am going to have to do; what choice do I have? I can't very well spend 3 more days looking at two copies of configure.php.

And yup, it got worse. So I installed into a new database since I never could get the upgrade optionto appear and then I flipped back to my old database. At first I could get to the admin and my upgraded website (with a database needing patches warning) but then I renamed the path from shop_new to shop and updated the configure.php files to reflect that and now I can't get to my admin at all - says

    0 DB_ERROR_NOT_CONNECTED
    in:
    [delete from db_cache]

And patching the database - I guess I'll have to import all my data into the newly created database which I could only do manually as godaddy's mysql won't simply import the export file for some unknown reason. I was forced to cut and paste chunks of database creation and population commands. Am I the only person trying to do this kind of stuff with kids under and over me making me lose my train of thought constantly or else at 2am when my mind is not sharp? I would imagine there are a lot of people runnng businesses from home using zencart.

This has been soooo frustrating but now, it's gonna go smoothly, right? Sheesh.
