    Default Parse Time/Query Time comparison/help?

I'm upgrading from 1.2.4.1 to 1.3.6 and am noticing quite a difference in response.

The live 1.2.4.1 site is http://twomorrows.com and the test 1.3.6 site (with re-design and some additional contribs) is http://new.twomorrows.com

    For example:

Clicking on a product in a list on 1.2.4.1:
    Parse Time: 1.103 - Number of Queries: 327 - Query Time: 0.853954992279

    Same in 1.3.6
    Parse Time: 3.596 - Number of Queries: 381 - Query Time: 2.666831286

    Any thoughts or pointers?

    Thanks,

    Rand

Hard to compare with additional contribs installed and a larger page size... the new one is over 300k YOWSER!

There are a lot of factors here ...

    Try this test:
Go to new site to this address:
    http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=407

    Check time ...

    Click NEXT

    Check time ...

    Click PREVIOUS

    Check time ...

    Now ... do old site:
    http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=407

    Check time ...

    Click NEXT

    Check time ...

    Click PREVIOUS

    Check time ...

Notice NEW site is faster than OLD site ...

Depending on products there are quite a few things that can be done to speed pages up ...

It really depends on your site and look at things that are not "being used" but are technically "turned on" and could technically be "turned off" ...

Also be aware, active sites will be faster as things are cached by Zen Cart as well as your MySQL caching based on how your site is setup by your hosting site ...

Properly configured MySQL/php on your site by your hosting company should result in faster response on a second page rendering like the NEXT and PREVIOUS test ...

Your site is not consistant on this ...

With only 293 products there should not be such an inconsistancy on either the old nor new version ...

But, there are lots of things Zen Cart does ... and if the < 1 second pages are too slow ... you can

1 get a faster hosting site that is configured correctly ...

2 work at speeding up your site by streamlining things with proper configuration

    3 wait for v1.4

Thanks, Linda! That helps quite a bit. I'm not liking the inconsistency you point out...

Is there anything in particular I could look for, in my phpinfo or elsewhere, to check on the suitability of my MySQL/php configuration?

    Usually it is caused by:

    Low memory

    Lack of memory for MySQL

    Low cache

    Overload on the server

    Throttled by hosting site

Lots of things cause this ...
