moving site to another folder

Hi,
I'm currently setting up zen cart.
But i didnt want it to show up while I'm design the store.
I renamed index.php to index_old.php, then inserted my custom page index.html

However, the store doesnt show up when I go to index_old.php.

I currently have these on the root folder. Is it possible to move all the files to another directory, say /store? Then prepare everything and when its all done move it back to the root.

Is there anything I should be aware of before doing this?

Your other option would be to set the store in maintenance mode but don't forget to add your IP to the exclusion list or just password protect your site via cPanel etc.
