Upgrading v1.2.6 to v1.3.6 - really confused

Hi Guys,

I currently have zen cart v1.2.6 and want to upgrade it to v1.3.6:

I read the updating docs, I am trying to create a copy of my site it says "Then create a new database and load your old database in it?"
Is this from within zen cart on the new site? Or at my server?
I know how to restore a SQL backup using the tool within Zen Cart but I cant get into Zen Cart or the admin area to do it?

Basically I downloaded my entire site via FTP, then uploaded it to a folder zenoldcopy, but when I try to access this folder I get this message:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /zenoldcopy/ on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I created a new database in my Godaddy SQL area called zenoldcopy and changed all the references in admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php to this but still get the same error?

I used WinMerge as per the docs to compare the original v1.2.6 files to my website and there are thousands of differences, it is impossible to go through every single one, how hard is it to upgrade I have been stuck for days now it seems impossible, these are the mods I installed:

I changed the header and footer and most of the template stuff should be ok as I believe most was done in my custom template, but I also customised the checkout and dont want to ruin everything, can anyone help?
Is there a real STEP BY STEP instructions as the zen instructions so far of using winmerge to compare everything will take me years, Or if you are an expert in upgrading zen sites and could do this quick pls send me a PM as I have been wasting way too much time on this

I'd love to have the upgrade manual from 1.2.6 to 1.3.6. Where did you get it? I'd be thankful if you could send it to me or give a source for dowload. Thanks in advance.
