file upload attributes & file renaming

I am in the process of getting my printing company's website ready to go online. I will be heavily using the file upload feature as most all items will need the customer to upload their artwork file(s) so that we can print them. I like the fact that the files are uploaded with a sequential number which prevents a customer who uploads a file named "businesscard.jpg" from over writing another customers file with the same name. However I would like for the file to be uploaded with the unique number and the customers original file name together.
Like this:

1.businesscard.jpg
2.buisnesscard.jpg
3.myfile.gif

Any one know if this can be done & how?

Or if the period after the number messes with the file extension, any character could be substituted.

1-businesscards.jpg
2-businesscards.jpg
3-myfile.jpg

At present, the naming convention that is used works ... and the naming is that way on the order in the admin for the number and filename ...

We will be reviewing this in a future release as we would like to make the file uploads a tad more efficient and increase many of the capabilities ...
