Ht Disallow Buyers To Add More Porducts Than Available

I thought that when setting stock quantities and setting it up to deduct quantities purchased from quantity available, that ppl wouldn't be able to buy more than I have in stock.

Unfortunately, it just happened to 2 customers and now I have to go tell them that only some of the stock is available blah blah blah.

How do I do it so that if someone wants to buy 2 of X item and I only have 1, it will onlt allow them the 1 and tell them that there's only 1 available? The quantity available comes up on the display page but I guess ppl are too lazy to notice.

A prompt suggestion would be helpful, b4 someone else goes and does it again. I hate telling my customers hey bought something that isn't there through no fault of my own.

Check your Stock settings ...

Particularly look at:

Allow Checkout
Allow customer to checkout even if there is insufficient stock

Nevermind, I found it. For anyone else who may want to know how to stop ppl from ordering more than what is in stock this is how you do it.
configuration > stock > allow checkout > false.

Hope it helps someone else.
