Reserve items for customer

I have a requirement to 'reserve' products for a list of customers.
The product is in high demand, and certain customers have requested (via email) that they be put on a 'priority list'.

Is there any way to do this (or something similar) with Zen-Cart?.

Another option might be to hide products from all but registered users.

From the overwhelming amount of response I guess that this just isn't possible :-)
