Adding 3 Featured Products on Index page

I am trying to customize my ZenCart. I am currently trying to add 3 and ONLY 3 featured products to the top of my index page, just above my "New Product for %Month" section.

How would I go about pulling 3 random featured products and their info, and have it displayed on the mainpage above the new products for month section?

I would also like to be able to control the size of the images. Say, for example, I am thinking of using a constant image size of 150x150. How do I go about doing this?
