On the admin side choice configuration / Product Info and select Also Purchased Products Columns per Row
Also Purchased Products Columns per Row can be set from 1 to 12 but not back to 0 to let the also bought items disappear ;)

Simply set your Maximum Values setting for Also Purchased Products to 0 if you wish to disable the output.

Sorry - not a bug. The Setting to not show is in Admin> Cofiguration> MaximumsPlease do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.
