Default hang between header and page

On a new install I've developed an odd behavior when opening my store.

The header loads and then hangs.. eventually the rest of the page loads, but only after a significant delay.

I'm thinking I may have missed something in setting up the template...because I also have tried to upload a new header_bg.jpg in my custom template and that does not overwrite the default (I didn't change the name - so it should have gone right in over top of the original).

I've tried going through the template setup again following directions, but apparently I'm missing something? Can someone direct me to where I might should look for solution?

    Thanks,
    J-M

The URL to see the problem?

The template that is loading for this site is at includes/templates/classic/ and you should for many reasons create your own in it's own folder. This can be a copy of Classic but edit the template_info.php and change to a name of your choosing.

It loaded with the new header for me....you might clear your cache???

It did seem a bit slugish and I would suspect your host or the server that you are on.

I'd be speaking with your hosting site ...

That site is really doggish in moving between pages and it is not consistant ...

Can you turn on the parse times in the Configuration ... Logging ...
    Display The Page Parse Time
Display the page parse time on the bottom of each page
You do not need to store the times to display them in the Catalog

Also, try turning on GZip ... while this does speed things up I am not sure if it is going to help this issue ...

Thanks all, You're right the host had a huge problem with their box.

I will definitely take your advice to copy the Classic to my own Custom Template folder. I've pretty much started that but it's a huge concern for me, at the moment. Can I just copy the directory and rename it - say call it Custom? and then I go back to Admin and redirect to that template? Do I need to keep going back and copying files, then? Or does the Admin take care of that?

As for the Gzip? That's a new one for me. I'll look into it and try to make that work.

Again, I truly appreciate your help. I'm new at the Zen-Cart / and fairly new to anything PHP so it's a real slow go for me. I couldn't do it without the help of people like you.
