changing the description

hey up folks just wondering if was to edit the
[FONT=Verdana]<meta name=[/FONT][FONT=Verdana]"description"[/FONT]
my self would this effect the website or how my products appear search engines or would it just give the description i want to the search engines ?

The Zen Cart program creates the Meta Tag descriptions for each page dynamically. Which page are you wanting to change?

sorry about the delayed response im looking to change the one in the html header so it changes it on the main page

I'm looking to do the same thing. Trying to see if there's a mod or somethig for it. This should really be a little easier to get to.

It's really just the main page that matters to me. The rest of the site, which is auto generated, works like a charm and is pretty easy to change. It's just the main page that's giving me problems.

Since I'm only trying to replace the main page description, here's what I've done:

includes/templates/template_default/common/html_header.php

Simply replaced the tag:
<meta name="description" content="<?php echo META_TAG_DESCRIPTION; ?>" />

with my own description. I don't really understand the template layouts yet, but I'm working on it.

I plan on having customized meta tags for each product, category and ez page, so anything else (if it's defaulted to what I placed in the above page) will have the meta tag above.

I have to say one thing... I've used so many shopping carts it isn't even funny. Zen is the best by far, and the support is pretty darn good. There's a few questions that go unanswered, but hey, if you can't say anything helpful, best to not say anything at all.

OK, so that probably wasn't the best solution. Has anyone got a clue on how I can change the main page meta tags only. Just the main page.

I'm wondering if we can do an "if" statement that disallows current meta tags on the front page and then includes a meta tag file specifically for the front page.
