hi,
Is there a way to create a fixed size text box attribute? i.e. it has a certain number of rows and columns for the user to enter text. If code needs to be changed it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction.

You can change a text attribute in the Option Names to a textarea by setting rows and columns ... and you can limit the number of characters ...
Just go to the Option Name Manager and hit Edit ...
Is that what you are looking for?

I need to be able to set the maximum number of rows allowed and the maximum number of columns allowed. For example a box where the user can enter a max of 4 lines of input and each line must be less than 30 characters. Basically a text box where no scrolling is allowed. From what I can see the attribute system doesn't allow this because I can press enter repeatedly and the box will scroll. Is this right?
Correct ... a textarea is too open for that ...
Can you utilize Option Names:
Line 1
Line 2
Line 3
Line 4
And then you just need to worry about the length?

Note: this way each of the Option Names can have a maximum set for the length and if need be you have the freedom of varing length per Option Name ...

At the moment the number of characters is limited in the text box so isn't there a way of limiting the number of newline characters? Are there known problems with doing things like this?
I might have to use your suggestion of many text attributes but it just seems messy. Thank you for your quick responses and help.
I cannot think off the top of my head a better way to do this without a lot of custom coding etc.
The Option Name limit on the maximum literally stops the customer from being able to type any more ... makes for an obvious "Don't do that!" message to the customer ...
