    Default Question about shipping

    Like most other new Zen cart folk, I find myself extremely confused. After reading around this forum for a bit, I find that it's a little clearer, but I'm unsure as to how exactly to best replicate our current shipping rules in Zen Cart.

    We're using Yahoo store, and have for many years, but have finally gotten fed up with the inane restrictions they have there, so I want to use this. Here's the rules we currently have:

    Shipping and Handling charges are $5 within the United States for first class mail, $6 to Canada & Mexico, and $8 everywhere else in the world. If you order more than one item, please add $1 for each additional item inside the US, or $2 for each additional item elsewhere. You can also get US Priority Mail at $8 shipping, and $1 for each item after that.
    What would be the best way to replicate that within Zen cart? Weight, table, I'm not entirely sure. Yahoo does it as a combination of table and weight.

    Check and install(enable) the zone method in admin > modules > shipping > zone

    Then in Calculation Method > select per item
    In Zone 1 Countries> enter US
    In Zone 1 Shipping Table > enter Value:1.00 where "value" is a number that will encompass the max # of items that you will ship or use 1000 if you believe that no one will order that qty in a single order and $1.00 as the cost
    In Zone 1 Handling Fee > enter $4.00

    and do the similar for zone 2 & 3 entering the countries that you will ship to for each

    You could use the Item item shipping module and clone it for the 3 zones ...

    Then add the Handling charges as:
    4.00
    5.00
    7.00

    And the per item charge of:
    1.00
    2.00
    1.00

    This would let you make as many zones as you like with different handling and per item charges ...

    Kobra, I got it working with yours. I now need to figure out how to also implement the US Priority Mail. Can I make there four zones, and have more than one inside the US? Does the system freak out if you have the same country listed in more than one zone?

    The USPS module does not rely on Zones module nor take any information from it. These are separate.

    If I used USPS mode for Priority, can I tell it what to charge? Our money guy here wants to charge specific rates, does the USPS module use "real" shipping rates, or can I say "don't care what they say, charge this".

    Also, this brought up another issue - when I went to edit the zones.php to add another zone, the extra fields came up, but there was nothing to indicate what these addtl text entry fields were. Is there more to adding more zones than just this:

    // CUSTOMIZE THIS SETTING FOR THE NUMBER OF ZONES NEEDED
    $this->num_zones = 3;
    }
    This is what it looked like:

    Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong with adding more zones?

    Not that would be useful to you - it's behind my company's firewall and totally blocked off to the outside world. Even I can't access it when I'm not at my desk.

    What do you need?
