Free shipping (again) over X amount - UK Royal Mail

I think I have the same issue as the OP and my hapless searching hasn't been successful.

I want two options: buy less than X, you get Flat Rate, buy more than X you get Free. I setup "Free Shipping Options" and I see the free pop up during checkout on the orders worth over X, but it is presented along with the Flat Rate option. I would like to hide the Flat Rate option when Free is triggered. Can this be done?

That is when you should instead use the Modules ... Order Totals ... Shipping ...

Turn on the Free Shipping on Orders over XX.XX

I also found out that it helps to turn off all other options in the Shipping Module aside from the flat rate.

A slightly different question but always about free shipping (freeshipper).

I want, only for certain products, to have free shipping for them but only in a particular zone. Who order these products from another zone has the usual shipping methods to choose from.

How to? If I flag always free shipping and setup freeshipper to use only in zone A, it works correctly for people from zone A, but people from all other zones, can no more place the order (sorry no shipping for this place (don't remember exact words, but you understood, right?))

That makes it more complicated ...

There isn't anything built in to make products free shipping on a per product per zone basis ...

You would need some additional coding to manage the shipping for free shipping for the zone and something to manage regular shipping for those outside the zone ...

It could be done, but it would take quite a bit of custom coding and a better detailed explination of the conditions for this ...
