Randomly placed items on front page?

Right now if you go to http://www.chipfast.com/z/ and refresh it the items randomly post.

How can I make them static? Thanks!

You will have to edit the tpl_modules_whats_new.php file

In fact that is not the file you need to edit. You need to edit includes>modules>new_products.php (Or preferably includes>modules>YOUR_TEMPLATE>new_products.php). Beneath the SQL query, there is a line that says:

 $new_products = $db->ExecuteRandomMulti($new_products_query, MAX_DISPLAY_NEW_PRODUCTS); 

That's what's randomizing everything. I also want to base the index display on product sort order, not random, but I can't figure out how to do it. Anyone got an idea?

Hi Seeker, did you have any luck? In the end I found it easier to present a front page based on categories, which aren't presented in random order (www.roll-over-rover.com/store). It was better for my overall site organization anyway, but I still find it frustrating that you can't sort the page of product listings according to your specified sort order - seems illogical, doesn't it?

That's what I was going to do lol. How do you set it up so it will just display a catagory at home?

In admin > Configuration > Layout Settings, set "Categories - Always show on main page" to 1 (true). Set "Main page opens with category" to 0 for all, or a category id number to open a particular category.

Maybe you are right, but it don't randomize teh "New Products for..." on the home page. Knows somebody where can I change it to be not random displayed?
