If you do not have the directory:
    /admin/backups

set to 777 the button will not show ...

Recheck that the directory is really set to 777 as there are some hosting sites that block that setting in FTP ...

Go to the Admin ... Tools ... Server Info ...

    Do a search for:

It's OFF for me, so I have to ask my hostprovider to set it to ON?

Thanks for the update that safe mode ON issue was causing the problems with the missing button on the Backup MySQL add-on ...
