Problem with Specials and Featured products on main page

Hi
I am displaying specials and featured products on main page. But right now, only product name and image gets displayed. [and price in case of specials]. But i want to display small amount of text [say about 4-5 lines] telling benifits of special or featured products. Then what should i achieve that? how can a get some text below the image of special or featured products on MAIN PAGE???

Featured:

Admin > config > Featured Listing > Display Product Description > set to "1"

Unfortunately, for the specials you would have to hack the specials_default.php file at a minimum

But i did not get what exactly should i do for the display of text below specials on Main Page of store??
