help question Setting Up Local Domain Name - quick question

I'm working through the brilliant manual which arrived this morning and have installed XAMPP. I now need to set up the local domain and I'm not sure whether I need this to match the name of my existing domain - http://www.crystal-vysion.com - or whether I can just choose any domain name.

I wonder because the manual says "when you experiment with ZenCart later, you will not be allowed to specify email accounts with either "local host" or an IP address as the domain" - so does this mean I have to use the domain name for my website, which is already registered and active? I do already have e-mail addresses set up with the website, of course.

If someone could just put me back on the right line I'd be very grateful.

    Thank you

    Katie

    Another problem, I'm afraid.

I can't locate C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts\ - I can't find the system32 folder. There is a 'system' folder within the WINDOWS folder, but it does not contain the 'drivers' folder. Have done a search and it has found a system32 folder within a folder in WINDOWS called I386, but within that there is only NTDLL.DLL and SMSS... if that makes sense to anyone!

    I'm running XP.

    Katie,

Bad news - On my Win XP Pro box I have windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Sounds as though your XAMP is difficult - I use Easyphp and do not set anything on the Win box (I hate MS)
