Shipping Estimator & UPS module for U.S. store

Hi All,

Is the stock Zen Cart shipping estimator able to correctly estimate shipping for guests (i.e. not logged-in) using the UPS module (my store is in a UPS covered zone of U.S.A.)?

Zen Cart v1.3.7 [2007-01-18 02:09:59] (Fresh Installation)

I ship with UPS only. The estimator shows a blank for guests, but works fine for customers logged-in.
My UPS module settings...
UPS Pickup method:
RDP
UPS Packaging:
CP
Residential Delivery:
RES
Shipping Zone:
none

I've been scouring the forum for a definitive answer on this question, but need some clarification. I did see a post from Merlinpa saying the UPS shipping estimator did not work for guests when UPS Packaging = CP

If the answer to this question is no, do I need to install the 3rd party UPS XML module, or ...?

When not logged in ... if you do not pick an address in the Shipping Estimator there is nothing for UPS or USPS etc. to quote ...

You could add a bit more text in there to say ... pick an address to get a quote ...

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm...Makes sense. I guess what's confusing is that the State & Zip fields are there in the estimator form, which in other Zen Carts I've shopped are the only user information required to generate a shipping estimate...(looking for link as example.)

Am I doing something different than other folks using UPS shipping? Is there a way to generate a quote (albeit rough) through the UPS shipping module with only State & Zip?

When not logged in you are asked where to ship ...

When logged in you set to your address or allowed addresses are in a dropdown to select from ...

In any case, UPS and USPS must have an address to get a real time quote ...

Linda & All,

My bad (big surprise, no...? ;^)

Seems back in 1.3.0.2 I made a tweak to:
includes/templates/custom/templates/tpl_modules_shipping_estimator.php

Then I inadvertantly carried it forward into 1.3.7.
Once I removed the custom template file all was right with the UPS module and Shipping Estimator.

So, feeling empowered to answer my own question; Yes, the Zen Cart stock Shipping Estimator will generate a shipping quote with only the State and Zip when a guest is not logged in.

Hi Linda

Got a questions. Please view my pic attached. I got my UPS installed and user account logged-in. Why does it say "We are unable to obtain a rate quote for UPS shipping."?

I also cant get my shipping estimator to produce the right cost/cost with the UPS installed

Just realized the problem ...

You are trying to use UPS from outside the US ... the UPS that comes with Zen Cart is for the shipping from the US ...

You would need to use the UPSXML which is in the Wiki in the 3rd Party Downloads ...

Hello Linda,
I have a UPS Module problem on a fresh intall. I do not get any ups rates, all I get is this. I already checked my postal code in Shipping/Packaging; it was working on a live site, then all of the sudden it stopped working so I did a test fresh install (V 1.3.7) and I get the same error, do yo think my hosting service is blocking UPS.
How does the module work, how does it get the real time rates?
