Product display order - bug or my mistake?

I've selected the order I want products displayed using the 'Sort Order' variable but it seems to only affect the order on listing pages.

To see what I mean, go here and look at the order of the products. If you click on the first product "Dan Moi - Standard" and go to the product description page you'll see it displayed as 'product 4/6' despite being product 1 on the listing. Using the Next and Prev buttons will take you through the products in an entirely different order than what has been specified by the 'Sort Order' variable... Why? I don't get where this order is coming from either, it doesn't correspond with product ID either. It is worth noting that Image Handler ignores my sort order and displays the products in the same order that next/prev does.

This may or may not be correct. Check the SORT ORDER of each of the individual products, too (on the far right side of the list in the Admin area. Maybe I can get a pic of one of mine:
181 Black Currants Rising Bath Size $5.50 12 (QTY) 20 (sort order) "E"

That "20" on the end -- that is also a sort order item. It is near the bottom of the product adding page. Click on the green "E" (edit) and you can change the sort order in that product.

My guess would be that this is where that "4 of 6" thing is coming from.

Nope, the sort order is how I got them in the desired order. It just ignores this on non-listing pages.

As you can see below, I have already specified a sort order but it is using alphabetical order instead.

BTW, you can't post links to your admin pages. If they *did* work you'd have some major security issues.

I don't see them here in the forum but they came through in my notification email.

I deleted the links on the Forum when I saw them. Thanks for the tip. Silly me. Didn't realize links would come, too.

Anyway, how about:
Product Listing ->Display Product Listing Default Sort Order

Any luck there?

Close enough! You got me in the right direction. I kind of assumed that the default sort order would be the specified sort order...

Anyway the solution is in Admin -> Configuration -> Product Info -> Previous Next - Sort Order

By default it is set to '1 - Product Name'. It needed to be changed to '6 - Product Sort Order'. IMHO, the sort order specified should be the default.
