On sober second thought, you may wish to check out my suggestion with your local tax grabbers, who, being the sort they are, may wish to tax the whole amount before you take off the coupon value.

Thanks for this great thread. It's been most helpful. How do I set this up so that it does calculate tax on the whole amount, then activate the discount? If it's written above already, I guess I missed it... thanks for your help.

I figured it out. Order total modules... just change the order

This doesn't appear to work with the local tax module. If I set the coupon as described, it still charges local tax. I tried changing the sort order of the local tax module (default 250) to just before & after the normal tax module (tried 301 & 299), but that causes the total to not include the discount.

Ideas?

Last time I tried the local tax module it charges tax on everything - even non-taxable items. I think the problem is not in the discount coupon...

United States Postal Service (Priority Mail (2 - 3 days)): $7.35
Texas State Sales Tax 8.25%:$6.03
Total: $80.30 - Should be $78.95

Please accept my question as genuine... where did you get the $6.03?
I have tried to tax the sub-total, the total, and even looked at subtracting the discount coupon, but I still cannot get $6.03.

$81.96 - $16.39 + $7.35 = $72.92 * 8.25 = $6.02
