I would like to add one more step to my checkout process

I'd like to add one extra page, either before 'add to cart', or before 'checkout'.

How can I do that?

Can you be more specific about what this extra page is supposed to do during the process?

To be more specific, I'd like to have either two checkout pages, or two product info pages, where the extra page is an additional product explanation page, because I don't want to stuff everything in one page.

I'd like this page to be fully HTML customizable, and not interfering with the checkout process, but have no idea where to start with my minimum knowledge of PHP.

Hope I managed to explain it... Any ideas? Is it at all possible?

I would suggest using the EZ Page facilities of Zen Cart. You can then add all of the additional information you need and you can link to that page from your Product Info page. You may want to consider using the Tabbed Navigation addition for the product info page.
