help question Is it safe to delete files in the cache folder?

My cache folder seems to have grown to over 3gb since i installed my cart and I only have 5gb webspace which is now completely full.

Can anyone tell me what these files are saved for?
Is it safe to delete them?
Can I limit the size of the folder or set my cart to auto-delete files older than a given time period (i.e. 30 days).

Any help would be much appreciated

You should be able to empty that directory for files that are not active or current ...

    Default query_selects

I've been looking around in the forum and have not found any answers.
I am backing up my site, and I am having problems with my /public_html/cache folde, which is full (around 20 000) of text documents called query_slectsXXXXXXXXXXX (where X is for numbers)
Any idea what this is? Can I go and delete them? Are they important?
    TIA

red flag Re: Is it safe to delete files in the cache folder?

I'm having this problem too! My host shut my site down because the cache folder had over 500,000 files in it - and that's just since April!!!

I'm deleting the files, but it's taking me a couple of days. Is there any way to have these pruned automatically or limit the folder somehow?

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

what kind of files are you finding in there? ie: what are the names of some of them?
If they're log files for payment modules, you should turn off the logging unless you need it for some reason.

    query_selects__1209492008.txt

Here is a sample of what is in some of the files. They are not all the same, but similar.

    and expiry > '1209491982';

    I AM HERE

Any of this make any sense to you?

    Thanks,

Yes -- those are SQL query logs. You'll want to turn off Query Logging in Admin->Configuration->Logging

Thank you! I hope that works... we've had almost 10,000 files a day posted to that folder. That's just way too much to handle!

    Thanks again!
