Turn diplay off main category

Is there a way to turn off the hyperlink of the top most categories?
I want to show it on the left hand box, but only as a title/heading.
Currently customers click on these and are taken to a blank page. If anything when they do this, I'd like to have the subcategories showup.

If clicking on a top cat brings up a blank page, maybe you don't have "Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories" set properly in admin > Configuration > Layout Settings.
You may also want to set "Categories - Always Show on Main Page" and "Main Page - Opens with Category".

If the top cats are not links, how will you ever get to the subcats? If you want the subcats to always show in the categories menu, with the top cats as non-linked headers, there is a simple way to do this, explained in this thread. Move the subcats into the Top, and use the directions to make headings where you want them.

Thanks for the info. I turned on the show cats option. One thing my customer commented on is there's too many clicks to get to a product.
