How do I remove my current site & put up my Zencart online store?

Hey there,
sorry I am a bit of a learner when it comes to this.
I have previously built a site in frontpage with paypal buttons etc. and I now am changing to having a Zencart site.
I have started "building" my zencart online. How do I get rid of my old site and have my zencart site appear when people go to my url?

Do you have Zen Cart installed in the root directory or its own folder? If you installed Zen Cart in the root, you should be able to delete index.html and let the index.php (Zen Cart) take over.

This is stupid, But I dont know.
I loaded it from my webhost and it said to leave the box blank if you wanted it to put it in the correct folder (not exact wording! LOL) so I did, so where can I look to find out?
I have been into my control panel and gotten rid of my index page but when i go to my site it is still the old one.
