account name and password for customer login

Hi
I am seeking help to try and find an alternative for registering customers on my wholesale site by using their existing account name and setting a password rather than them needing to enter an email address and password. Any help appreciated in trying to change these fields.
I have also downloaded the mod that enables me to add customers from the ADMIN side of Zen Cart and I would like to be able to set this to username and password as the login details rather than the required email address that is needed for customer login purposes.
