easy populate timeout/30,000 product upload

I've been searching for almost 2 days and cannot find threads on this, so im sorry if this is a repeat. I am using 1.3.7 zen cart and 1.2.5.4 EP. I am trying to upload my EP files and it always gives me a cgi timeout after about 7000 products. Also, is there an easier way instead of 1 by 1 to delete all the products and catagories when i try to upload the EP file again? This is the 6th time I've played around with the uploads. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! JTLS

P.S. Sorry, the error I get is: CGI Timeout - The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.

There are two ways to avoid the timeout error:
1) Reconfigure your server to allow more time
2) Import less products at a time, eg 1000

Having said that, I've had no problems importing over 80,000 products in one hit. However, I wasn't using easy populate (I produced my own SQL import script specific to the data I was given).

When you do finally import your 7000 products please be warned that you'll find some aspects of the admin interface can get *really* slow. I'm specifically refering to the 'featured products' selection lists.. This tends to become unusable after 1000-2000 products.

If you aren't running your own server this may not be possible.
If you are running your own server, look for "max_execution_time" in your php.ini file.

Easiest, safest way is to use Rod's suggestion 2..
i.e.
2) Import less products at a time, eg 1000
