    Default Freehostia doesn't support htaccess options

    So I'm using Freehostia and I'm testing out a virtual product, have all the downloading stuff setup, but when I checkout and click download it returns a server error. I'm being told by the server guys that it is because their server doesn't support htaccess Options...so I'm thinking there's something with the way zencart redirects and uses symbolic links for downloads. Any ideas how to circumvent this?

    What do you have in the htaccess?
    A default should not have anything affecting this

    Try renaming .htaccess to htaccess.txt and see if this helps (this takes it out of play)

    If this does not correct it then get back with the tech's and tell them that you have no htaccess and there is still an issue

    I didn't change anything, it's the same htaccess that was unzipped...

    It might be that Freehostia does not allow you to really have an .htaccess.
    Try Kobra's suggestion and see what happens - and if that is the case, this host may not be capable of properly supporting Zen Cart or real e-commerce.

    You will likely need to set these:

    Admin->Config->Attribute Settings
    -- Download by Redirect = False
    -- Download by Streaming = True

    I'd recommend not using freehostia to run your live ecommerce site. They're fine for testing things, but you will likely find better performance and much better flexibility on a more traditional web hosting account -- esp one that's tuned for ecommerce use.
