remove monthly specials box from front page

How/where do I remove the monthly specials box from the front page.

I have items on special... but I only want them to display on the specials page. :-)

How to remove the "Specials" link at the top of the page as well? I've been searching for an hour and all I can find re how to remove the "specials" box on the side...but there is also a link at the top of the page in the middle

I've done this, yet my Specials, Featured Products and New Products are all still showing on the home page?

They are set as follows:
Show New Products on Main Page 0
Show Featured Products on Main Page 0
Show Special Products on Main Page 0
Show Upcoming Products on Main Page 0

The only way i can get them to turn off is to set Configuration>Layout>Categories - Always show categories on Main Page to 0.

Is this correct? I want to show the categories, but not the specials, new products or featured products.

Your Template is probably missing the proper "switches" to turn them on and off - Suggest you compare your tpl_main_page.php to one from the template default.

Had thought that initially, and they looked the same. However, to be sure, i just compared them with Winmerge and they're identical. To be extra sure, i compared my template with an unaltered download of 1.3.8a afterwards and they're still identical. Am i right in thinking i should compare includes/templates/MYTEMPLATE/templates/tpl_index_default.php?

My template file (and the default file) has the following code:

Hi - i'm not sure what you mean?

ive also got this same problem.
All my Index Listings are set = 0
The Specials box doesnt show on the main page, however all categories and sub categories show the specials and featured.

Any idea how i might tackle this one ?
