Default Add a field in Shopping Cart

    Dear all,

I would like to add a field called delivery mode - ESD or Physical in the shopping cart. If someone chooses ESD, then there is no shipping. If he chooses Physical, then the system has to calculate the shipping charge. Do you all have any idea how to do this?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Jimmy

By installing the additional products fields, from my signature, you can create new fields within your TABLE_PRODUCTS without any expertise from the admin section. Then, all you have to do is to implement the fields you created into your products overrides templates + your extra_definitions folder.

If you request further support / answers for this MOD though, please reply to the official topic.

The question, as posted, does not have anything to do with individual product fields.

What you appear to need can probably be handled by setting products to have downloadable or hardcopy attributes. There are settings in the product creation page that address this. Look in the FAQ/tutorials for good information on the subject.

Idea or Suggestion Re: Add a field in Shopping Cart

Thank you very much for your reply.

The product can have 2 modes - electronic or physical. So I cannot set the product to one mode only.

Is there any further idea on this?

That's the idea with attributes - you can select to buy the product in downloadable or physical form, and if you select downloadable, Zen Cart doesn't apply shipping to it.

So look over the available information, and if there is anything you still don't understand, come back and ask about it.

Ok, where's that crow? I don't use downloads, so my knowledge of them is limited to readings and forum discussion, of which there has been some about combination download or physical products. However, the info I can find doesn't indicate anything about automatically setting shipping to match.

Hopefully someone who knows the details of these products will come by and enlighten us.
In the meantime, setting up the attributes for a product to test could help you down the road. You can definitely make a product selectable for download or physical, and the attribute info is displayed in the shopping cart, thus available to be used for shipping calculations.

Ajeh has just answered this question in this download and cd thread.

Very simple, but not obvious until you are reminded...
