Idea or Suggestion Instructions are confusing........

I have been following the instructions below and they are confusing because I think two steps are the same!! I could easily be wrong however :))

First, you need to make a new directory for your custom template files.

Open: includes/templates/ and add a folder. (You may call it anything you want, but in this FAQ we will be calling it my_template.)

Create an empty folder inside your new template directory and call it images ... so you should have includes/ templates/ my_template/ images/.

Next, copy the includes/ templates/ template_default/ css directory from includes/ templates/ template_default/ and place the new folder and its files in your new includes/ templates/ my_template/ folder.

Copy the stylesheet.css from includes/ templates/ template_default/ css to includes/ templates/ my_template/ css. This si the stylesheet you will be editing.
The part in blue is redundant as the stylesheet.css is already in the includes/ templates/ my_template/ css by carrying out the actions in the part in red???

Or am I not understanding this at all!!!????
    Thanks

Perhaps this could be reworded in the FAQ to read something like
Next, copy the includes/ templates/ template_default/ css directory from includes/ templates/ template_default/ and place the new folder and its files in your new includes/ templates/ my_template/ folder.

Look in your new includes/ templates/ my_template/ css folder and find stylesheet.css. This is the stylesheet you will be editing.

I read so much that night and I cannot remember where I read it.
I will definitely post the link when I come across it again..
I would like to ask a new question if that is ok?

I want to rename the admin file for security reason as suggested..so I am told to change the instances of "admin" in the admin/includes/configure.php to my new CUSTOM name and then change the folder name to the same CUSTOM name...seems straight forward to me...so I open my core ftp, download the file from my server onto my hard drive..open it in my editor..edit the admin/includes/configure.php, save and re-upload to overwrite...IT FAILS EVERYTIME...should I be doing a live edit in the admin control panel and if so where do I find the files to edit and once I have found them how do I get them into the editor to edit them?????
I think I am missing something simple here and I feel very frustrated but I have spent a few weeks trying figure this out and I don't know what to do now.. can you help me?
    Thanks in advance

When you said "IT FAILS EVERYTIME" you meant you could not overwrite the file?

What FTP software are you using?

What permissions are on the file *before* you download it?
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
