Help needed with implementing Shipping cost- complete Novice

Can anybody point me to a tutorial on how to configure postage options.
I have spent several hours going through the post, but so far have been Unsuccessful in find any answers.

Basically what I want to is

In any under the value of £29 being sent to UK will have a fixed cost of £1.81 plus the cost of postage for the item.

In item over the value of £29 being sent to UK will have a fixed price of £4.75 plus the cost of postage for the item.

In any item being sent to EU will have a fixed cost of £4.75 plus the cost of postage for the item.


I am aware that I need to configure a weight to postage amount table
I have tried various configurations under Modules/shipping such
as setting minimum order valus to £0.001 and maxiumum order value to £29.00

I have assigned a handling fee of £1.81

I have also assigned a weight to the item as 1

I have added these Shipping rates to GB & Northern Ireland
1:0.30,2:0.40,3:0.70,4:1.00,5:1.20,6:1.50,7:2.00

So what I expect to happen for UK delivery is that customer is charge automatically £1.81 plus 0.30 per item

So 1 item with a weight of 1 would be £1.81 plus £0.30 total £2.11

What I am actually getting in checkout is

Per Unit (Best Way) £0.00
Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Signed ForTM "Packet" (Great Britain and Northern Ireland only : 1.000 kg(s)) £3.28
Zone Rates (No shipping available to the selected country

I have many more questions, but first I would like to learn how to fix this and then why it was not working.

Website is not live and it on the server where I purchased the e commerce software. so I can not provide a link.

Any guidance would be appreciated

Purchased the software? If that is the case you need to talk to the folks you bought it from.
