Default I am such a newb, please help me

Hey guys. I have trying to install for the past few hours, but no avail.

I have a website from freewebs, and I have been trying to install zen cart but i can't seem to do it.

i went through the instructions over and over again, but when it comes to install, it doesnt seem to work.

I am using ftp from my service provider, and have changed all the neccessary 777. (actually, it were boxes I checked... i just checked all the boxes to make it applicable to all.

when I try doing that http://www.mydomain.com/catalog or http://www.mydomain.com/catalog/zc_install but i have the 404 error.

if anyone can advise, that would be great.

im thinking that it might be where I am ftp-ing the files to....
any suggestions what other places I can ftp to aside from my service provider?

    thanks for helping!

Did you create a Database for this or are you even getting this far?

Are you able to access/load the install routine page?

From your description you should have the files at mydomain.com/catalog

nope. I didnt create a data base for this.

I can't even install or access the routine page.

this is what i did...i downloaded filezilla, and then i uploaded to:

ftp.shaw.ca and uploaded into my username.

then from there, I changed all the files accesses and configure as per the instructions, and when I put in the my domain (www.paperworksco.com/catalog) , nothing happens

You need a DB pre-created but this does not answer why the install is not loading??

I had that same thing happen to me. I tried to change the chmod the settings from FTP program (WS_FTP) and it would not make a bit of difference.

I then went in by way of my control panel and changed the settings from there, it worked fine.

Try it, it can't hurt, and it is a quick fix.

If you do not have a control panel (I only know what I have) try contacting your host and asking them to do it or tell you how to do it yourself.

The first time this happened to me they did it for me and told me to try by CP next time.

I took a look and it looks like it is working to me. There are no products to buy to test it, but the site looks like a brand spankin new zencart!

    What specifically is not working?

it looks like you installed your store in a sub catagory, specifically " catalog. For the host to recognize just the www name you have to have your "index file" on the root of the site.

I am not sure how to fix that, but if it was me and I had not done too many modifications yet, I would delete the whole thing and reinstall being careful not to use catalog during your installation.

I should preface (subface) that by saying that some people prefer to have their site in a secondary folder and then have an "index" file redirecting, so if that is you, you may want to create such a redirect file named index.php
