upgraded to 1.3.7 but need higher level database patch

I got version 1.3.0.1 and wanted to upgrade to latest, so i made a test folder and put latest in it and gave it a new database, i then uploaded the sql data from old version to latest version database and i dont think i am to far away, the info/pages/products from old version appears on new version BUT in admin i get:

Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. See Tools->Server Information to review patch levels.

How can i upgrade the DB with patches, not sure where they are?

Had a look but is a bit confusing, i am using version 1.3.7 but i added the data from my old DB to the new DB and the message appeared in the admin:

not sure how to add patch or where they are? isnt that all i need to do, add a patch??

Do i need to change the altered files if i am using nre version with old data in new database, its tricky to us beginners..

Upload the zc_install directory and follow the instructions for upgrading - Back up first!
