Can you make Fedex your default shipping if you offer more than one type of shipping?

I am offering Fedex ground and express as well as US Postal Express and Priority mail. I would like it if when the shipping page came up it would always default to Fedex Ground shipping's button. It seems now to pick cheapest but I would prefer it to always have the Fedex Ground button chosen. Any way to do this?

One thing you can try easily is to change the sort order of the shipping modules so that Fedex sorts first.

The default shipping module is not related to sort order but rather to the cheapest method offered ...

You would have to do quite a bit of customization to alter this method especially with a shipping module such as FedEx that offers multiple shipping options that vary between addresses ...

I too need to change the default Shipping method. I have enabled 'freeoptions' and it is a choice for the customers to select this. However not all customers are eligible to select this option (even though it appears for all customers). Therefore I would like to make "Flat Rate" the default. I also tried changing the sort order and found this has no effect of the default.

Please can someone help me by telling me which files to edit to change this default - it is very important for what I'm trying to do.
