Default Attribute - product size vs shipping box size

Not sure how to go about doing this. I guess I might need to setup a seperate item foreach item/bottle size as then I can set the weight + box size.

The sotre I'm working on will sell lots of liquid products that have bottle sizes ranging from 1L to 24L for each product. Setting up the attributes is farily straight forward but I can only set (from all I could find) is one box size on the add/edit item page.

Obviously I can't ship a 10L bottle which is way bigger then a 1 liter bottle in the same box.

Is there anyway to specify a diffrent shipping box size for different attributes. I can see you can specify the weight but not the box size?

    Thanks
    Arek

Price it as packed and adjust your attribute pricing accordingly

What do you mean by packed? - Item ships in its original box?

If in the original box why do you need to specify it? Ship by weight...

Well none of the items are in original box(s). They'd just be pulled from the stores shelves. I'm just getting the hang of shipping but Canada post requires a box size other wise if I check shipping rates from the cart to what's on Canda posts website they are way off. Unless there's a different way of doing it.

Ok lets see if I can explain it better. Trying to figure out shipping is seriously starting to piss me off.

I set up a product and set up attribute(s) called (size) for that products. This is a liquid product. There are several sizes of bottles

    Products
1L (This bottle requires a box size of aprox 3X3X6")
4L (This bottle requires a box size of aprox 4X4X10")
10L (This bottle requires a box size of aprox 6X8X15")

To use the Canada Post module I need to input a box size for the item. Well from the looks of it you can only set the box size for the whole item and not for the attribute which I set up to be different sized bottles/weight. Since the bottles vary in size they require different size shipping box dimensions.

So when the item is selected and you go to the checkout the shipping is calculated using the box size that was input when I created the item but if I choose the biggest bottle size this box is way bigger then what I used in the item config page.

    Okay - so what if I order say 1 4L, 5 1L, and 2 2L of another item.

What box size will this be?

I suggest you use the tare in the admin to add cost/weight to these orders that mitigate your eventual costs
