free shipping optional overnight

Hi,

I need to add an optional overnight shipping charge.
0-1lb. $16.25
over 1 lb - 2 lb $19.50
over 2 lb - 3 lb $21.40
over 3 lb - 4 lb $24.50

But this is only charged if the customer chooses to send the item overnight.

Right now all the products are free shipping (0 weight)

What the best way to accomplish this?

You could use the Zone Rate or the Table Rate shipping modules for this and base it on weight ...

Just change the text to read Overnight Shipping ...

What shipping modules do you have installed?

Hi Linda,

I have free shipping installed (no other shipping installed).

Using Zen Cart version 1.2.3

The goal is to continue to provide free shipping and an option for overnight (for a fee depending upon weight).

Please let me know if this is the way to accomplish my goal:

(1) uninstall the free shipping module.
(2) add a weight to every product in the catalog.
(3) Install the flate rate shipping module and set the fee to $0 (to handle free shipping).
(4) Install the table rate shipping to handle the "overnight" shipping charges.
- Modify the text for the table rate shipping to indicate "Overnight" shipping option.

I do (1) because the free shipping module is not compatible with the other shipping modules and when I put enter a weight for a product, the free shipping doesn't work (the checkout gets stuck on the shipping address page).

I do (2) to provide standard free shipping.

Does this sound correct?

That should work as the weight determins how much of an overnight to charge ...

Keep in mind that if weight exceeds the last setting on Zone Rate then there will not be a rate so set the value high to cover your highest overnight charge ...
