Default Can't download from my site

After adding over 2400 items to my my new store, I have created 1 item that can be downloaded for free.

I have gone through the Zen eBook that I bought and I can't get it to be a downloadable product.

For 1, it says that I'm not accepting payments from my area, eventhough the download is to be FREE.
Then, when you get to the "checkout" it doesn't download and asks you to make sure that your logout to make sure the next person doesn't see your info.

Can anyone shed some lite on this problem please?

Did I miss a step (or two)?

    Thanks
    Robert

More than likely you have a few settings off ...

    In the Product when adding/editing:

1 Download Products are NOT Virtual

2 Download Products are NOT Always Free Shipping

NOTE: this means you should not see the checkout_shipping when this is the only product in the cart ... and when in an order with other products it will not add/subtract from the shipping costs ...

3 Install the Zen Cart Free Charger freecharger Payment Module so that you can checkout when this is the only Product in the shopping cart or you cannot get through checkout as there wouldn't be a Payment Method ...

I must be missing someting else.
I have either already set the cart according to what you suggest or made the changes to match it, but no matter what I do, the file never downloads and I had 9 orders in my admin panel. I deleted some because the billing and shipping didn't match for some reason.
I also tried to play with the status of the order, didn't make any difference.

I select the free download and it shows in my cart
I go to the checkout and asks me to login (or register)
Then it goes to Step 1 of 3, delivery info. Free shipping is selected.
In step 2 I have to agree to terms and conditions that I don't know where they came from but can deal with that later, so I agree. I also get the option to use a coupon code and put in some comments. I continue to the checkout.
Step 3 confirms my order, billing and shipping are the same, 1 item in the cart at $0.00 and free shipping.
Final step is to confirm the order after which it says Thanks You, don't forget to logout.

Anyidea why I didn't get the download?
It's in ZIP format so not to confuse IE but I'm not sure I defined it in the right place.
I did read in the eBook that the file needed to be FTPd to the DOWNLOAD directory on the server, so that's where it is.

    Thanks.

If you only have downloads in your Products in the cart, and you get to checkout_shipping then you do not have your products setup right ...

Look in the Products and edit them and ensure that:
Product is Virtual: No, Shipping Address Required
Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

Look in the Attributes Controller ... you should see a green dot next to the filenames ...

Download filenames should be Zip files for best results and not contain spaces, special characters, etc.

They should be uploaded to the directory:
    /download

What are your settings in Admin->Configuration->Attribute Settings?

When these orders show up in your admin area, do you have a section that lists the filenames of the files associated with the order, along with green/yellow/red status buttons which allow you to control access to each of the download files?
If not, then you haven't tied the files to the product as attributes yet.
If yes, then you have a problem with your order status settings.

I think my problem is with the Attributes Controller. I see the product name but not the file that's associated with it.

In the order status I currently have 7 orders. One has a red dot because it claims the billing and shipping address don't match, which they do. The rest say "Processing". In none of the orders did I get the file. I don't want to have to do anything in the system to release these files. It's a FREE file so I wan't anyone to be able to download it without me having to release it or approve it or anything like that. There are no color dots other than the Red one. :-(

    I didn't before, but I do now.
I killed my data so I had to ask my ISP to restore the data from Sunday which they were kind enough to do.

I think I have it working, at least on my own, the only, account so far.
If anyone would like to try.....

    Thanks to everyone who helped.
