My Logo/Header Needs Splitting

I have a large background image in my header (at http://www.oldwestgames.com) that I need to seamlessly split in two for the sake of faster image loading. it's currently 32k which is not huge but it's not tiny either. I think two 15k images would load faster.

Can someone please give me some advice on how to do this.

I figured I would split the image into header_bg_left.png and header_bg_right.png

and here is my current logo wrapper code...

I can't really see two 15k images loading any faster than one 30k image.

Yeah, I really don't like that image quality. I'm a graphic designer so I know how to edit images. I simply need the code for the display of images in the header.

I am not sure if they will load faster but they will more likely begin to load quicker. At this point my header seems to be the last image that fully loads which leaves a bad taste in my mouth because when you are browsing you tend to look for that page title or logo.
