    Default Installing Patch-What is PDT?

I have version 1.3.7 and am using PayPal IPN, not the Express. I had the same problem with an PayPal e-check not creating an order in the cart; even after the e-check has cleared. I did a search here and found the thread on the patches and DL'd the June 17th patch (PPEC-137-patches-June17.zip) In the "How to Apply Patch" instructions (http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...5&postcount=11)
    In step 6 it says:
If you're using the IPN module, BE SURE TO SETUP PDT, as described here:
and gives a link back to the same place in the thread.
My question is, what does PDT mean?

    Thanks,
My next question is, do I have to use the (Payment Data Transfer) for quick order activation? I don't want to setup my PayPal account to return back to my cart checkout because I use the Paypal account for direct payments and they don't need to go back to the cart.

Same question here. I have two websites that send Paypal payments to the same Paypal account. I can't set up another Paypal account because I would not only be in violation of Paypal's agreement (1 business and 1 personal account per user), but I'd also need another bank account and credit card to put on it. So I can't have the Auto Return setting in the Paypal preferences as either site.

So do I need to use PDT?

I've applied the PPEC-137-patches-June17.zip patch to both sites but I'm not sure how to proceed. I was having issues with Paypal e-check payments not being recorded in zencart, nor an email being sent to me or the customer with such transactions. I've read the install instructions, and it makes sense except I'm stuck on this PDT and auto return issue with using multiple zencart sites with one Paypal account.

Did the patch fix the e-check issue? Or is using PDT the only fix to the e-check issue?

Also, as far as Auto Return, I was under the impression that any site could pass a value to Paypal, along with the rest of the order details, specifying an auto return page, overriding the auto return setting in the website payments preferences on paypal's site. Is this not the case? Does zencart not automatically do this? If not, is there a way I can add it?

Yes -- Zen Cart does this automatically.

PDT is used to instantly release your customers' orders instead of waiting for PayPal to send an order update to your server in the background. Sometimes the background process can be unreliable depending on the server configuration. The PDT approach lets PayPal validate the order to your site without having to wait for the background process. However, *all* sites that use your PayPal account will need to know about your PDT code or else transactions will not complete properly.
