    Default Customer login questions

    Hello,

I've got a few questions about the customer login mechanism. First, it appears that a customer is required to create an account in order to make an order. Is it possible to change this so they have the option? I'd like customers to be able to say 'No thanks, I don't want an account'.

Secondly, is there a way to change which fields are required? There are some of them, like birthday, that we don't want to require.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

They don't have to log in to browse or add to their cart. They do have to enter their information and create an account to check out.

You can go to Admin/Configuration/Layout Settings to turn off the customer greeting, which might throw some people. You can also change your custom language files to change references to "registration" to something else.

There isn't currently an "anonymous purchase" option with ZC.

If you go to Admin/Configuration/Customer Details you can change what shows on the registration form.

You might want to have a look at this extradinary book...
20 Surefire Ways to Increase Sales Using Zen Cart

And it's free, for a while anyway.

I've just been applying much of what it recommends to my retail site. I expect it will help customers get through the various issues they might have with an account. It also should improve the actual buying experience.

You should also have a look at the thread in another forum here about changing ZC to not require an account. You can find it at this spot.
