The site I'm developing is for construction products that will require multiple file downloads for each product. On average about 4 downloads per product (safety information - usage information - cad files - etc.)
The question I have is we would like to make the cad files available only to registered customers. Could I get some suggestions for how to do this?
I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Zen Cart only allows controlled downloads to registered customers who obtain the files via the checkout process.
So ... based on my understanding of your question ... the answer is yes..

So its possible to have some downloads available to the world and make other downloads only available to registered users?

If you want to offer free files which don't require registration/checkout to obtain them, you'll have to provide A HREF links directly in the HTML of your product descriptions. Zen Cart will not track downloads for those kinds of files, because it does not know about them..

FYI for folks that may stumble upon this, the work around that I used was to have a sidebox with links to files only appear when a user is registered. If the user is not registered the sidebox reads "you must register to download these files"
probably not the perfect solution but it works.
